History
Mh2d was organised for the first time in 1984. Looking back on it now, a lot has changed since then. In the first couple of years, the cycling clubs of Margraten and Sint Geertruid organised it together, but for a couple of years now Mh2d has been organised by the cycling club of Sint Geertruid.
The start/finish locations have also changed: from brass band hall, the Eijkerbouw warehouse, to a tent in a meadow of the Adrien family’s estate in Libeek.
The number of participants grew from 200 in the first year to almost 10.000 in the last couple of years. The organisation set the maximum number of participants at 10.000. Having more participants could mean jeopardising the event’s quality and atmosphere. The growth in participants was accompanied by a growth in quality. Also the organisation has become a more professional one. And it’s improving every year. Thanks to the suggestions of our participants and the NFTU, Mh2d has become a star event among the Dutch cycling and MTB tours.
The Mh2d organisation has also developed digitally. No more paper forms to fill out – nowadays registration is only possible online.
We have also changed the way we plan and plot our routes. While in the past we plotted the routes on maps and made a large number of copies every time routes were changed, we now work with gps and use digital route plotting mapping software. Once the routes have been set and drawn, they are made available on our website for participants to download. A professional team is responsible for signposting the routes during the event.
The municipalities in Belgium and South Limburg have become stricter when it comes to safety and code of conduct. Due to the large number of cycling and MTB tours, the impact on nature and on the lives of people living in the region as well as security have become key issues. Therefore, we kindly ask for our participants’ cooperation in this matter.
